Hi there!

Welcome to NeuroHelm! I'm Iiro, the developer of this app โ€” and an MS patient myself.

How it all started

I started tracking my symptoms in a spreadsheet. It quickly became impractical on a phone, and I wanted better ways to process and analyze the data. That's how NeuroHelm was born. When I realized how much it was helping me personally, I began focusing on features that could help others too.

Diet and gut health

Diet and gut function seem to play an important role in symptom management. I discovered this years ago when I cut out dairy and ultra-processed foods โ€” my brain fog disappeared! So I focused on building diet plan support and recipes into the app. That was quite a project! The app now supports several different diets, each with its own recipe collection. Have a recipe to suggest? Drop it in the comments below!

Reporting

After the diet features, I focused on reporting. This is crucial for neurologist visits, because it's hard to remember everything that happened and when. NeuroHelm can generate a PDF report covering your symptoms, trends, medical events, supplements, and your latest AI insight report. It should make those short doctor's appointments much more productive!

Making it personal

I wanted the app to feel more personal, so the avatar editor came to life. Hair styles caused me some headaches at first, but I'm happy with the result. The "Curly" hair style survived from the original editor because it was just too fun to remove ๐Ÿ˜„

Later, I thought about how different MS is for everyone, and that led to symptom customization โ€” toggling symptoms on and off so your tracking setup matches your experience and adding your custom symptoms.

Insights and correlations

The app needed a more analytical approach to symptom data, which led to Insights. These are reports that combine key events, structured data, and AI analysis. The correlation analysis is particularly interesting โ€” it can reveal connections between different symptoms and behaviors, for example between diet adherence and gut issues!

Meet Talia

Talia deserves her own blog post, but here's the short version. She started as a playful character to help with app navigation. Over time, she became an essential part of the analytics side. You can ask her about anything โ€” the app, your symptoms, recipes, wearable device data (heart rate variability, sleep, and more). Raw data is interesting if you're a nerd like me ๐Ÿค“, but the insights derived from it are what's truly useful!

I hope you enjoy using the app, and I sincerely hope it helps you! If you have recipe suggestions, feature requests, or just want to share your experience โ€” leave a comment below ๐Ÿ‘‡
